Podiatry is the diagnosis and treatment of biomechanical abnormalities of the foot. Incorrect walking or running in the short or long-term can lead to knee, hip or back pain or even arthritic changes, owing to poor alignment and mechanics. Early intervention is really important to prevent long-term problems and to enable a person to return to normal function.

We provide a full podiatry and gait analysis service for children and adults, and amateur or professional athletes.

Any sport will accentuate a foot, knee, hip or back problem. We can carry out a full biomechanical assessment, which helps reduce the incidence of injury and enables you to return to sport quickly. It captures information about how you run and where the pressure falls when you are undertaking sports activities. Whether a professional or amateur athlete, it’s vital that you wear the correct running shoe for any foot condition. We can help you to make sure that you choose the right shoes for your needs.

Problems such as flat feet or pigeon-toes (feet turning inwards) are more easily correctable at an early stage, and so it is important to have a child’s walking assessed and examined. Treatment with orthotics (special moulded foot supports) can help to prevent back, knee, neck and postural problems in later adult years. The signs to look out for include flat feet or very high arches, knock knees, pigeon-toes, tripping up a lot when running, excessive wear on shoes, or poor posture.

Postural problems, neck, shoulder or back pain and even headaches can be the result of lower limb problems. Look out for flat feet or high arches, bunions, toe deformities, or excessive wear on shoes.

Our podiatrist, Andrew Root, can carry out all of these assessments and can treat all of these conditions. He works directly with the physiotherapists at the Ashleigh Clinic to ensure an all-round healing approach to sports and other injuries or complaints.
